What to Expect
At the Colosseum, we'll uncover the intricacies of the spectacles once held within its walls, learn about the lives of gladiators, and explore the engineering marvels of its construction and evolving uses over the centuries.
On the Palatine Hill, we'll visit the very spot where the city of Rome began, and see the remains of the palace where Augustus and subsequent emperors made their homes. The word "palace" itself derives from this historic hill, Palatio.
On the Roman Forum, ancient temples, the Senate House, and the outlines of ancient basilicas still stand as the heart of the ancient city. Ascending the Capitoline Hill, we'll be rewarded with the same breathtaking views that inspired poets and writers throughout the ages.
Optional additions to the itinerary include:
- Frescoes from the 1st century in the House of Augustus (additional €3 per person)
- Frescoes in the House of Livia, if accessible
- The Church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli on the Capitoline, containing the tomb of St. Helena
- The Basilica of St. Clement, with the opportunity to visit the archaeological zone from the 4th, 3rd, and 1st centuries AD
